SoHo, Looking Up

Most people come here for the shopping. I come here for the buildings.
Some afternoons I find myself staring upward while everyone else is looking into storefront windows. The cast-iron facades seem to change personality depending on the light. Their colors are a welcome change in the concrete jungle. Rich with columns, decorative details, and history, they feel both elegant and timeless.
SoHo captures me from above and below. The cobblestone streets feel decadent and nostalgic while reminding me of home: the sanpietrini of Rome, the winding alleys of my beloved Palermo.
This is probably where I'd live if I won the lottery—except for the steep staircases inside those old factory buildings. I can't imagine carrying my groceries up one of those!
